Tabor City Happenings & Events 3/22




At the March 8th town council meeting in Tabor City, Town Council declared April 4th – 8th as Semi-Annual Clean Up Week. During Semi-Annual Clean Up Week, our Public Works Department will be picking up discarded items street side. There are a few guidelines that we ask that you follow. Please call the Town Office at 910-653-3458 to let them know you have placed your junk at the curbside. Please remember that no hazardous materials,  automobile parts, electronic items or building supplies will be picked up. The landfill will not accept these items.  If you aren’t sure if your items qualify for pick up please call Town Hall at 910-653-3458 and they can answer your questions.

    Are you wanting to make a difference in your community? If this is on you mind then consider becoming a member of the Tabor City Committee of 100. The Tabor City Committee of 100 Membership drive is in full swing, and they would love to have you join. This organization was established in 1984 by members of the Greater Tabor City Chamber of Commerce’s Industrial Committee. Their goal is to improve the quality of life in the Tabor City community by promoting economic growth and advancing industrial development. They would love to talk to you about becoming a member and get you signed up.      Congratulations to newly crowned Miss South Columbus High School, Miss Madelyn Benton as well as 1st runner up Ryleigh Bunch, 2nd runner up Anna Fowler. Miss Congeniality award winner was Anna Fowler. The pageant was held last weekend at South Columbus High School. We know that Madelyn will proudly represent SCHS during her reign in 2022!!!

     A great turnout took place at Southern Farms Days at Lake Waccamaw last weekend. This annual event is one that everyone looks forward to in the spring of the year and they really were glad to have it back!!! Wedding season is upon us and if  you are planning a wedding do I have an event for you. Come out and enjoy the Bridal Expo at The Farm at Union Valley on Saturday, March 26th from 10:00am-2:00pm. Entry fee is $5.00. Kristy Best has rounded up photographers, wedding specialists, models, hair and makeup artists, caterers, and floral designers to talk with you about your special day. Live entertainment will also be part of the day.

     The Greater Tabor City Chamber of Commerce reports that their “Spring has Sprung Festival” planning is well underway. GTC Chamber of Commerce Board Members and volunteers have been diligently working for months in an effort to grow this event even bigger and better  that its inaugural festival that was held in year 2021.  Per Cynthia Nelson, EVP of the Chamber,  they are looking forward to their second year of festival events. We need sponsors, vendors, parade entries, and volunteers for the Saturday, April 23rd, 2022, event. For more information about the “Spring has Sprung Festival” please contact the Chamber or to request an application please call 910-377-3012 or 910-840-0292 or you can send an email to tccofc@yahoo.com. An application may also be found on our “hot off the press” website at taborcitychamberofcommerce.com.  Just click on the Blog page in the menu. This website is new, and items are being added daily.  Just bear with us as we keep tweaking.

     The Community brick campaign is in full swing, and bricks are selling like hot cakes!! If you would like to purchase a brick with your name or the name of a loved one pop by the Visitor Center for further information. The bricks will be placed in the sidewalk in front of the Community building. Three-hundred bricks will be sold. Bricks are $110 each. Monies must be collected at the time brick forms are filled out. Checks will need to be made out to: Town of Tabor City-Community Building. Stop by the Tabor City Visitor Center during regular business hours and we will be happy to assist you. Brochures representing the beautiful State of North Carolina are also available. Our friendly staff will be happy to pull together information for you or help you plan your next trip to the NC Coast, Mountains or anywhere in between. Operating hours of the Tabor City Visitor Center are Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm and Saturday’s from 9:00am-2:30pm.
