Tabor City Happenings & Events 3/29

At the March 8th town council meeting in Tabor City, Town Council declared April 4th – 8th as Semi-Annual Clean Up Week. During Semi-Annual Clean Up Week, our Public Works Department will be picking up discarded items street side. There are a few guidelines that we ask that you follow. Please call the Town Office at 910-653-3458 to let them know you have placed your junk at the curbside. Please remember that no hazardous materials, automobile parts, electronic items or building supplies will be picked up. The landfill will not accept these items.  If you aren’t sure if your items qualify for pick up please call Town Hall at 910-653-3458 and they can answer your questions.

     The Greater Tabor City Chamber of Commerce has been busy planning and working on several events for 2022!! The first event is the Tabor City Community Easter Egg Hunt which is set for Saturday, April 9th at 10:00 a.m. In case of rain, a rain date of Saturday, April 16th has been set. Hop on down the bunny trial to the Tabor City Tabor City Athletic Complex (behind Food Lion), to hunt for eggs, meet the Easter Bunny and have Mom take a picture. Lots of Eggs and Candy will be hidden and Lucky Eggs will be in each of the 3 age divisions. This event is Co-Sponsored by: Columbus County Parks & Recreation and GTC Chamber of Commerce.      The Greater Tabor City Chamber of Commerce reports that their “Spring has Sprung Festival” planning is well underway. GTC Chamber of Commerce Board Members and volunteers have been diligently working for months in an effort to grow this event even bigger and better  that its inaugural festival that was held in year 2021. Per Cynthia Nelson, EVP of the Chamber,  they are looking forward to their second year of festival events. We need sponsors, vendors, parade entries, and volunteers for the Saturday, April 23rd, 2022, event. For more information about the “Spring has Sprung Festival” please contact the Chamber or to request an application please call 910-377-3012 or 910-840-0292 or you can send an email to tccofc@yahoo.com. The festival will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. in downtown Tabor City. Location of the event will be the Grassy area across from the Tabor City Fire Department. A Car Show will take place on 5th Street. The Parade will begin at 10 a.m. in downtown Tabor City with line up at N. Main & 6th Streets – near 2 Broke Teachers. The parade route will go down Main Street, right on 3rd Street, right on Lewis Street, right on 6th Street to end where it began. This event is organized by the Greater Tabor City Chamber of Commerce.

     If fishing is your thing then you will want to sign up for  the 17th Annual Bass Tournament at Lake Tabor which is going to be held on Saturday, May 28th. Blast-off will be at 6 a.m.

Weigh-in at 2 p.m. Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, 3rd Place, & Biggest Bass. Lastly, it’s never too early to get ready for some fireworks!!! The 35th Annual Columbus County Fireworks Celebration has been set for Friday, July 1st and will be held at the South Columbus High School’s Civitan Field at 40 Stallion Drive, Tabor City. Gates Open at 6:30 p.m. with Entertainment beginning at 7:00 p.m. Hot Dogs, Soft drinks & water will be sold by the Chamber along with Glow Necklaces and Bracelets!! Fireworks will light up the sky at 9:30 p.m.

    Attention all BBQ lovers!!!  The Greater Fair Bluff Chamber of Commerce has been busy planning their 11th Annual BBQ on the Bluff Cooking Competition. This year’s events are set for Friday, April 29th and Saturday, April 30th. Come out and enjoy some of the finest BBQ prepared by cooks from North and South Carolina. Cooking begins Friday night and trophies will be awarded during the Showmanship Judging, which will be held Friday night. Entry fee is $175.00, payable to The Fair Bluff Chamber of Commerce with deadline to receive check and application by Thursday, April 21st. Each team is required to check in on Friday, April 29th.      The North Carolina Strawberry Festival is right around the corner. A new event has been added this  year called the “NC Strawberry Festival Wine Social.” The wine social will be held at Brown Street Station on Saturday, April 30th from 5:00pm-9:00pm. Tickets are $30 per guest and will include wine tasting, charcuterie, and live entertainment. Social attire is required. For tickets call 910-840-0088 or 910-770-2748. Lu Mil Vineyard will supply the wine and education with Peacock Stop Bakery providing the food. Live Music from Stan James Gregory.

The 2022 NC Strawberry Festival Opening Ceremonies will be held on Thursday, May 5th from 4:30pm until 10:00pm at the Event Field beside Food Lion in Chadbourn. Plan on purchasing and enjoying a delicious chicken bog plate and lots of entertainment. Opening act at 5:00pm by Dustin Chapman and Ryleigh Madison with the Main Act at 7:00pm being “Gary Lowder and Smokin Hot!!” Cost of the plates will be $7.00. You can purchase you tickets ahead of time from any Strawberry Festival board member or buy them that night. Come on out for tasty food, entertainment and shag the night away!!!

 The Strawberry Encounters will be held on Friday, May 6th  and will be held at CPHC Ministries located at 518 North Elm Street in Chadbourn. Tickets for this event must be purchased ahead of time since seating is limited. Tickets are $30 per person. A delicious meal catered by Joe’s BBQ will be served along with entertainment, music, and berry fellowship!!! The Dignitaries Luncheon will be held Saturday, May 7th at CPHC Ministries as well. Tickets for the luncheon are $30 per person and need to be purchased prior to the event. Limited seating is at this event as well. A Strawberry auction will be held, and entertainment will be provided. The parade will begin promptly at 2:00pm. The 1st Annual Racing Brotherhood Foundation Car Show on North Brown Street will take place on Saturday, May 7th from 10am-3pm. This organization was established in 1984 by members of the Greater Tabor City Chamber of Commerce’s Industrial Committee. Their goal is to improve the quality of life in the Tabor City community by promoting economic growth and advancing industrial development.      The Community brick campaign is in full swing, and bricks are selling like hot cakes!! If you would like to purchase a brick with your name or the name of a loved one pop by the Visitor Center for further information. The bricks will be placed in the sidewalk in front of the Community building. Three-hundred bricks will be sold. Bricks are $110 each. Monies must be collected at the time brick forms are filled out. Checks will need to be made out to: Town of Tabor City-Community Building. Stop by the Tabor City Visitor Center during regular business hours and we will be happy to assist you.      Congratulations to newly crowned Miss South Columbus High School, Miss Madelyn Benton as well as 1st runner up Ryleigh Bunch, 2nd runner up Anna Fowler. Miss Congeniality award winner was Anna Fowler. The pageant was held last weekend at South Columbus High School. We know that Madelyn will proudly represent SCHS during her reign in 2022!!!

     A great turnout took place at Southern Farms Days at Lake Waccamaw last weekend. This annual event is one that everyone looks forward to in the spring of the year and they really were glad to have it back!!! Wedding season is upon us and if  you are planning a wedding do I have an event for you. Come out and enjoy the Bridal Expo at The Farm at Union Valley on Saturday, March 26th from 10:00am-2:00pm. Entry fee is $5.00. Kristy Best has rounded up photographers, wedding specialists, models, hair and makeup artists, caterers, and floral designers to talk with you about your special day. Live entertainment will also be part of the day.
